in India is now well over 6000 with annual turnover
of Rs. 1500 crores which include consultancy exports
as well.

Over 100,000 specialists are employed, including
nearly 10,000 management consultants.

The wide spectrum of disciplines and services provided
by Indian consultants range from project identification
to commissioning, involving supervision and training
of personnel, market surveys, rehabilitation of sick
units as well as operation and maintenance.

The consultancy organisations in India are directly
or indirectly supported by more than 1,000 R&D
institutions and research laboratories both under
CSIR as well as other major scientific organisations
such as DRDO, Atomic energy and space.

Largest concentration of consultancy organisations
is in the four metropolitan cities. Delhi (25.7%)
has the highest number of consultancy organisation
among four metropolitan cities followed by Mumbai
(25.5%), Chennai (12.1%) and Kolkata (9.1%).

Analysis of consultancy organisations in terms of
technical professionals employed indicates that 68.3%
of them have upto 10 technical professionals, 14.3%
have 11-25 and 1.5% have more than 1000 technical
professionals.
